The Legal Services Act 2007 specifies a regulatory objective to 'encourage a strong, independent, diverse and effective legal profession' within firms that supply reserved legal services such as probate.  A diversity questionnaire was sent to all workers in September 2016.

HPH Probate Services Limited is a small firm and there was significant concern amongst the workforce that the return of questionnaires would allow the identification of individuals from known characteristics, thus allowing other private characteristics to become known. There was concern that the completion of the questionnaires was an invasion of privacy given the size of the firm. Only one questionnaire was returned and this was not a surprising outcome.

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission states it is important that we do not breach workers’ confidentiality, or reveal anything which might enable someone to work out information about another person which was provided in confidence.  For this reason the results of the one returned questionnaire are not shown here.  However, the results have been submitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and will be included within their national published results.
