People

Philip Thake - Partner

Philip trained with Peat, Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1976. After a period in both industry and practice he joined the firm as a partner in 1980.

He is the firm’s Managing Partner and is also Chief Executive of York Conservation Trust. Philip represents the firm on the HCWA Managing Partners’ Executive.

Outside work, Philip is a member of Rotary and relaxes by watching a variety of sports and playing an odd round of golf himself.

Charles Walker – Partner

Charles trained with the firm and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1980. He became a partner in 1984 and was appointed Technical Partner in 1989.

He has specific responsibility for the firm’s audit compliance services to clients. Charles has recently completed his service as one of only two appointed members of the HCWA audit quality assurance review panel which undertakes peer reviews of the procedures and standards attained by member firms.

Charles is currently the Treasurer of York Against Cancer and has other professional interests including an active involvement in the local branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, having served both as Secretary and as President of the Society.

Robert Woolley – Partner

An accountancy graduate and qualified Chartered Accountant, Robert trained with Spicer and Pegler in Leeds before joining the firm as a Manager in 1981. He became a Partner in 1987.

Robert leads the Charities’ Team and has specific responsibilities within the firm for Student Training and Practice Development. He represents the firm on HCWA committees in both these areas, helping to determine national policies throughout the Association.

His client portfolio includes a range of charities (both local and national), independent schools, healthcare schemes, hospital trusts, and clubs and societies.

Robert’s wider interests outside the working environment include participation as trustee and treasurer with a number of local charities and churches and, when time permits, he plays cricket for a local team.

Adrian Rodaway – Partner

Adrian trained with HPH in York and gained his Practising Certificate in 1991. He has managed the Harrogate office of the firm since 1996, and became a Partner in 1999.

Adrian has specific responsibilities within the firm for Information and Communications Technology and local Practice Development. He represents the firm on HCWA IT committees, helping to determine national policies throughout the Association.

His client portfolio includes a range of charities. He has a particular interest in special-needs charitable organisations through family involvement, and advises informally in a number of areas.

Adrian’s wider interests outside the working environment include activities at, and the running of, his local church where he is a keen musician and youth worker. He acts as a Charity Trustee and is also a School Governor.
